My name is Vicky and I live with my husband and two grown up children in Wigston, Leicestershire.

I have always had dogs in my life, starting from when I was just a few months old, my parents were always surrounded by dogs, so my love for them started when I was very young. We have owned several different breeds over the years. We currently have five family dogs, one working cocker spaniel called Jinni, and Rosie, Bonnie, Robin and Hetty our miniature longhaired dachshunds.

I love dog training and spend much of my time with my dogs doing pet obedience and trick training. All my dogs have completed or are working towards the Kennel Club’s Good Citizen Awards. Rosie, Bonnie and Robin have all achieved Gold. Hetty has reached silver and is working towards gold. And Jinni is currently working towards her silver. Both Robin and Hetty have become Grand Champion Trick Dogs with the ‘do more with your dog’ scheme. They are currently just 2 out of 3 miniature dachshunds in the UK to have gained this award.

I am an accredited dog training instructor with the Academy of Dog Training and Behaviour, and was a trainer with a local Kennel Club dog training club for over 12 years where I have helped many people train many different breeds over the years.

I have previously been a puppy walker for Guide Dogs for the Blind and also for The Seeing Dogs Alliance. My role as a puppy walker meant I had to socialise the pups with anything that they may come across in their working life. We had each pup for the first year of their lives from the age of 6 weeks old, teaching them basic obedience and socialisation. It had it’s ups and downs, it was very emotional when it came time to say goodbye. But it has been one of the most rewarding jobs in the world, especially when you find out your pup has passed to become a qualified guide dog and is now making such a difference to another person’s life.

I set up Little K9s because I found myself asking how do people manage to combine the commitment of owning a new puppy and having to work. It is so nice for people to be able to have somewhere they can leave their dogs where they know they will be happy and well looked after. It also meant I could be home for our children while they were young. I am so lucky to be able to do a job I love and be able to help other people by being here to look after their dog, that they may not have been able to have because of work commitments.
